All You Need To Know About Self Tanning…

Self Tanning products can leave you feeling a little nervous and with so many options available, it can be hard to know which one is right for you. So, whether you are a first time self tanner or a pro, I’m here to help you discover all you need to know…

2

The One Hour Self Tan Tinted Lotion… This tan is perfect for those of you who are short of time and don’t want to sit around, waiting for your tan to develop. You can shower after just one hour and watch your tan develop further over the next 1-4 hours. Leaving you with a gorgeous light to medium tan. Depending on skin tone, results may vary.

3

Gradual Glowing Self Tan… This is perfect for enhancing your tan or creating one. It gradually builds up the colour as desired. If you like your tan a little darker, then this one can be re-applied. It also contains an anti-cellulite formula, which helps to tone and smooth the skin! I really love this product and personally, this is my favourite as you can build up the colour to get your desired result!

4

Q10 Self Tan Tinted Mist… This is a brilliant product for topping up your tan and is a “spray tan in a can”. It provides instant colour when you need it and takes up to 8 hours to fully develop. With a 360° nozzle, it makes it really easy to apply. Simply hold the can 15-20cm away from the body and spray, allow to dry before dressing. This is another real favourite of mine, it’s quick, easy and no mess! This can also be re-applied to create a darker looking result.

5

Deep Self Tan Lotion… This one has a strong instant guide colour, making it really easy to apply. It develops within 8 hours and once it’s been washed off, you will be left with flawless, deep rich colour. I would recommend this one for darker skin tones or if you like a medium to dark tan.

6

Q10 Bronzing Mousse… Like many of the products within the range, this one is an award winner! This is a dark tan mousse again with a visible guide colour for easy application. It will begin developing within 2-4 hours and should be rinsed off after 8 hours. As with the Deep Self Tan Lotion, I would recommend this one for darker skin tones that like a richer, deeper looking tan.

7

Finally, I would always recommend using Sienna X Secret Tan Primer and Luxury Tanning Mitt when applying any self-tanning product. The Primer needs to be applied to hands, elbows, knees and ankles along with any other dry areas to ensure you create a natural looking tan. The Tanning Mitt helps to create a flawless and streak free application and avoids your palms being left with a tan!

If you would like any additional information about any of the range, or you would like some tips on using any of these products at home, then I would love to hear from you, simply leave me a comment below or pop over to my Facebook page.

Happy Tanning!

Tanning Hell vs Tanning Heaven

Recently I was chatting to one of my lovely nail clients who asked about the other treatments I provide. We got on to the subject of spray tanning and began talking about the experience I offer. She went on to share with me a previous experience of spray tanning she’d had and by the end, I have to admit I was totally shocked!

She had come across a salon, not far from where she lived at the time who was offering cheaper spray tans so thought she would book an appointment. After arriving, a lady came through and directed her straight to the tanning tent which was covered in old tanning solution.

My client was telling me that at no point did she have a consultation to discuss the desired shade she was looking for or any questions asked about her medical history etc…No sticky feet (self adhesive pads that are worn during tanning to stop the transfer of tan to the bottom of the feet) were issued to her. The barrier cream was “slapped” on and the tanning began.

Not knowing what to expect, she thought this was the norm. She was in and out of the salon in under 10 minutes. Having paid her money, she left with no aftercare or advice on how to look after her tan. I asked her what the results of the tan were, and to be honest, the look on her face said it all. She replied saying “It was patchy, uneven and put me off ever getting another spray tan”.

I couldn’t help but feel saddened by what I was hearing and I asked her if she would like to try another tan with me? At first, she was a little hesitant (which to be honest, if I’d had the experience she’d had, I think I would be to) After talking her through everything including the preparation information, I’m delighted to say, she agreed.

She is now one of my regular tanning clients and I’m so pleased that I could turn her tanning hell into tanning heaven. Nothing makes my day more than to see my clients wearing their tan with confidence, being the most beautiful versions of themselves.

So what did this story teach me? Well, it’s like my client said after her tan, “It just goes to show, if it’s cheap, it’s not good and if it’s good, it’s not cheap.”

If I charge more than some spray tanning therapists, perhaps that’s because I invest a lot of time and money in my education, to perfect my skill each year. I strive to offer my clients the very best products within the industry.

This is not just my job, it’s my passion and I believe that each and everyone of my clients deserves the highest level of service as well as…

  • They deserve to know how to prepare for their tan, they deserve to know how to look after it and get the very best from it.
  • They deserve an in depth consultation and to know that one shade doesn’t fit all.
  • They deserve to step inside a tanning tent that isn’t caked with solution from the tan before.
  • They deserve not to feel awkward about being semi naked.
  • They deserve not to feel rushed but most of all, they deserve to feel beautiful and confident!

Until next time…

Take A Look Inside My Make Up Bag…

Make-up has always been a real passion of mine, in fact I think I’m a complete make-up addict! But for me, make-up isn’t about looking like someone you’re not, it’s about enhancing the person you are.

So with that in mind, I thought I would share exactly what’s in my make-up bag right now and the products I use each and every day.

Foundation…

At the moment I’m using Boots No7 Essenetially Natural in Cool Ivory. This is the first time I’ve used it and I’m really impressed with it. It gives a light to medium coverage and feels really lightweight on the skin. I’ve used many other foundations in the past which have sometimes felt quite cakey, but this one is really nice and definitely good for both day and evening looks.

Loose Powder….

Again this is Boots No7 and mine is in shade “Perfect Light”. In the past I’ve used pressed powders but I have to say, I really like this one. It’s nice and lightweight and is also hypo-allogenic so great for skin that can be a little sensitive.

Bronzer/ Highlighter…

I think I may have mentioned this before, but I really love Hoola and Dandelion by Benefit. Hoola is the Bronzer and Dandelion is the Highlighter. Both of these products work beautifully together. The bronzer has a matte finish, so by using Dandelion just on the cheekbones, gives you real definition. Both of these work really well for creating a dewy make-up look.

Lash Primer / Mascara…

It’s only been within the last year or so that I’ve started to use a lash primer but I really like it. Not only does it work well for those days where you want to wear minimal make-up but it also makes your Mascara last longer too. I highly recommend both the Lash Primer from Benefit and Boots No7, however for me, I’ve not found a Mascara I like more than “They’re Real” from Benefit.

Brows…

It’s taken me ages to find the right Brow product after Gimme Brow by Benefit, my old favourite was recalled. My  brows are quite fair and so I like them to look defined, but not so defined that I look like I’ve been attacked by a Sharpie Pen. So if you are looking for the perfect product, let me introduce you to Goof Proof Brow Pencil by Benefit. I have it in shade 2 (I think there are six shades in total with 6 being the darkest). It’s absolutely amazing and if you treat yourself to one product, I would highly recommend this one!

Lips…

If I’m choosing to wear a colour, I wouldn’t leave home without my Pro Longwear by MAC. I have it in shade “Overtime” but there are many shades to choose from in the range. The one thing I like the most is, it doesn’t feel sticky or tacky. Really nice to wear and lasts really well too!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this month’s blog and taking a look inside my make up bag. Please note I am not an affiliate for any of the brands I’ve mentioned, I just love to use products that work! If you have any favourites of your own, then why not drop me a comment below or head over to my Facebook page, I would love to hear from you.
