5 Things I Want You To Know About Spray Tanning…

5-things-i-want-you-to-know-about-spray-tanning-3People often ask me why I love spray tanning so much and my answer is always the same; It’s not just about making you look good, it’s about making you feel good too! Spray tanning is so much more than just a solution being applied to your skin, it’s a mindset game changer! In a survey carried out by Sienna X last year, 90% of women said they felt more confident just by having a spray tan… 90%, that’s amazing don’t you think? So, whether you are completely new to spray tanning or have had a few in the past, here are a few really important things I want you to know…

I’m Not Judging Your Body…

I appreciate the thought of getting semi naked in front of a complete stranger and then being sprayed with a solution that isn’t exactly warm, can fill you with dread. However, hand on heart, I only see a blank canvas that I can paint! It really is as simple as that, please don’t apologise to me for your body, you are beautiful just the way you are!

Tell Me Your Story…

I’m a complete people person, therefore I love to hear about you! When you come to me for a spray tan, I carry out an in-depth consultation because it’s important I get as much information about you as possible. Is your tan for a special occasion? Have you had spray tans previously? Do you use self- tan products at home? How well do you tan naturally? This all helps me to create the perfect tan for you.

Preparation Is Key…

For the best results, there are a few things that you’ll need to do before your spray tan. You will need to wax or shave at least 24 hours before your treatment. If you are choosing to be waxed, please ensure all residue is removed and exfoliated away so it doesn’t block the tan. If you are shaving, then open pores will need time to close, as the guide colour can sit in them. You will also need to exfoliate fully, paying particular attention dryer areas, such as knees, elbows and ankles.

Avoid Moisturiser Before… (No Matter What You May Of Heard)

It’s important to be completely free of moisturiser, make up and deodorant prior to your spray tan. These products can create a barrier on the skin and will affect the tan’s application. I do apply a small amount of barrier cream to elbows, hands, knees and ankles to avoid the tan being to heavily absorbed in these areas, but other than that, be completely au naturel!

I Promise, You Won’t Go Orange…

There is a real misconception around this, there are only two reasons that make a spray tan or a self tan look orange and they are; the tanning solution is to dark for that person’s skin tone and the second is the application of the tan has been applied to heavily. I am proud to work with the market leaders within the tanning industry; Sienna X. Their tanning solutions allow me to choose from five different shades and give my clients a natural, flawless and bespoke tan every time.

How To Look After Your Skin This Winter…

In the Winter months we can often neglect our skin care regime, mainly because we spend most of our time covering it up until the Spring. However, with the change in temperatures, it really is even more important to keep our skin hydrated. Therefore I thought I would share some top tips and some amazing products for keeping your skin happy and healthy this Winter…

After a long day at work, there’s no better treat than a nice long soak in the bath. Try to keep the water on the warmer side, rather than to hot, as to much hot water can dry your skin out.

It’s also really important to remove dead skin cells to, this helps keep skin looking and feeling at its best. I personally love “Body Smooth” by Tropic and would say to use this or a similar product at least once or twice a week.

Another firm favourite of mine is “Body Love” also from Tropic. It smells like Lemon Meringue Pie and just melts into your skin. This moisturiser can be used all over the body and works wonders for enhancing the appearance of skin as well as keeping it hydrated.

Even though the Winter months will make you feel less thirsty, it’s just as important to drink plenty of water. This not only greatly improves the appearance of skin, it also helps reduce fatigue, flush out toxins and improve your mood.

Whenever we head outside, we all naturally wrap up, however one area that is always exposed is our face. Therefore I would always recommend protecting your skin with an SPF Moisturiser, Foundation and Lip Balm. Just because we can’t feel the warmth of the sun, the harmful rays of UVA and UVB are still there.

If you would like to find out more more about Tropic Skincare, then feel free to head over to their website; www.tropicskincare.com where you can discover all of the wonderful products on offer. (I’m not an affiliate for the brand, I just really enjoy using products that work)

I hope you have found this useful and as always, if you have any questions or little gems to share of your own for happier, healthier skin then I would love to hear from you. You can contact me via email; nina@bebeautifulhairandbeauty.co.uk or by popping over to my Facebook page.

Until next time, here’s to an amazing month and taking care of ourselves…x

December Blog: Has Your Make-Up Seen Better Days?

Many of us apply our make-up daily and very often only replace it when something has run out, dried up or we fancy a change… Cosmetic companies are not obliged to print an expiration date on their products, but did you know that we should in fact, replace our mascara every three months? If not, you are not alone and with that in mind I’ve created a really easy guide to help you know when it’s time to show your products the bin and how you can get the best from the products and tools you usedecember-blog-image-5

Finally, here are just a few tips on getting the most out of your products and tools…

When applying your mascara, try not to “pump” your mascara wand in and out of the tube. This creates air inside and will cause the product to break down more quickly and dry it out. My recommendation would be to twist the wand in and out.

To get the best out of your eyeliner pencils and lip liners, ensure you sharpen them regularly. This not only does this improve the application, it helps reduce bacteria too.

I would also recommend cleaning your make-up brushes once a month. If you are unsure what to use, I personally recommend MAC Brush Cleanser. You only need a small amount, but it quickly removes product build up and helps take care of your brushes too. If you use a cosmetic sponge to apply your foundation, I would clean these once a week and replace after two.

I hope you have found this useful and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment below or pop over to my Facebook page and say hello, I would love to hear from you.

Just before I sign off, I also just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A huge THANK YOU to each and every one of you for your custom and support throughout 2016. It really does mean the world to me! I hope you all get some well deserved “me-time” over the festive season and hope that 2017 brings you all you wish for…x

Love,
