Tanning Hell vs Tanning Heaven

Recently I was chatting to one of my lovely nail clients who asked about the other treatments I provide. We got on to the subject of spray tanning and began talking about the experience I offer. She went on to share with me a previous experience of spray tanning she’d had and by the end, I have to admit I was totally shocked!

She had come across a salon, not far from where she lived at the time who was was offering cheaper spray tans so thought she would book an appointment. After arriving, a lady came through and directed her straight to the tanning tent which was covered in old tanning solution.

My client was telling me that at no point did she have a consultation to discuss the desired shade she was looking for or any questions asked about her medical history etc…No sticky feet (self adhesive pads that are worn during tanning to stop the transfer of tan to the bottom of the feet) were issued to her. The barrier cream was “slapped” on and the tanning began.

Not knowing what to expect, she thought this was the norm. She was in and out of the salon in under 10 minutes. Having paid her money, she left with no aftercare or advice on how to look after her tan. I asked her what the results of the tan were, and to be honest, the look on her face said it all. She replied saying “It was patchy, uneven and put me off ever getting another spray tan”.

I couldn’t help but feel saddened by what I was hearing and I asked her if she would like to try another tan with me? At first, she was a little hesitant (which to be honest, if I’d had the experience she’d had, I think I would be to) After talking her through everything including the preparation information, I’m delighted to say, she agreed.

She is now one of my regular tanning clients and I’m so pleased that I could turn her tanning hell into tanning heaven. Nothing makes my day more than to see my clients wearing their tan with confidence, being the most beautiful versions of themselves.

So what did this story teach me? Well, it’s like my client said after her tan, “It just goes to show, if it’s cheap, it’s not good and if it’s good, it’s not cheap.”

If I charge more than some spray tanning therapists, perhaps that’s because I invest a lot of time and money in my education, to perfect my skill each year. I strive to offer my clients the very best products within the industry.

This is not just my job, it’s my passion and I believe that each and everyone of my clients deserves the highest level of service as well as…

  • They deserve to know how to prepare for their tan, they deserve to know how to look after it and get the very best from it.
  • They deserve an in depth consultation and to know that one shade doesn’t fit all.
  • They deserve to step inside a tanning tent that isn’t caked with solution from the tan before.
  • They deserve not to feel awkward about being semi naked.
  • They deserve not to feel rushed but most of all, they deserve to feel beautiful and confident!

Until next time…

3 Tanning Myths You Should Ignore

If you are new to spray tanning you may have heard some things that have made you think twice before booking an appointment. So, this month I wanted to share some of the most popular tanning myths I hear about and let you know the real facts…

Spray Tans Make You Look Orange…

I’m glad to say that tanning has come so far in recent years and gone are the days where “Orange” was the only shade available. With Sienna X you can be guaranteed of a natural, flawless looking tan every-time. There are only two reasons a tan can look orange and that is because the wrong shade has been applied for your skin tone or the solution been applied incorrectly.

Moisturise Your Skin On The Day Of Your Tan…

Please don’t ever do this. Moisturiser will create a barrier between your skin and the solution being applied. You should exfoliate your skin prior to having a tan to remove any dead skin cells, this will leave you with the perfect base for your self tan or spray tan to be applied. Ensure you are also free make-up, deodorant and perfume free.

Spray Tans Only Last For A Few Days…

How well your spray tan lasts is down to a few key factors. One is how well you have prepped your skin prior to your tanning appointment and the other is how well you look after it. By moisturising daily with an oil free moisturiser such as Radiance Body Balm you will be doing all you can to increase the longevity of your spray tan. Many of my clients get around 8-10 days out of their tans so correct preparation and aftercare advice absolutely key.

As a Master Sienna X Therapist, I prefer to create a bespoke tan for every client that they will not only be proud to wear, but they will feel the most beautiful version of themselves. For me, it’s about creating a natural, flawless looking glow every time!

Why I Would Love To Do Strictly…

As soon as Strictly Come Dancing begins, the countdown to Christmas is on! So, this month I wanted to share exactly why I would love to do Strictly!

Now, when I say I would love to do it, I don’t mean I would like to take part in the actual show itself! Firstly, I am not a dancer and secondly I’m not a celebrity, therefore these would be two of the main attributes for the show, that I appear to be missing!

No, when I say I would love to do Strictly, I mean I would love to spray tan for Strictly! Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t because I am a huge fan of any celebrity in particular. For me, this is all about the atmosphere, I bet it’s electric! It’s no secret that tanning is something that I am super passionate about and if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I often talk about how I love the way a spray tan can not only enhance how someone looks, but more importantly how they feel too! I truly believe that a tan is so much more than a solution being applied to the skin, it’s a mindset game changer!

I’m also a great believer in dreams, because without them, what do we have? Sometimes, we just to have to dream big, keep the faith and trust that everything will happen just as it’s meant to. I think Walt Disney sums this up perfectly; “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Walt Disney himself was living proof of this! Did you know that prior to him becoming a extremely talented animator and amusement park creator, he had had to file for bankruptcy? Oprah Winfrey got fired from her role as a news reporter before she became one of the most famous talk show hosts in the world. J.K Rowling received many rejections for Harry Potter books before her first one was finally published in 1997.

Just for a second, imagine if these three individuals had decided to give up on their dreams? A world without Walt Disney, Oprah and Harry Potter!

My final question; what are your dreams? I’ve told you mine and would love you to leave me a comment below and tell me yours…x

Until next time, let’s go and chase our dreams!
