How To Have Beautiful Hair This Summer

The Summer holidays are almost here; it’s a chance to escape for a while and enjoy some well deserved rest and relaxation. However, it’s important to remember the sun can be just as damaging to our hair as it can be to our skin. Therefore this month, I wanted to share some of my top tips for keeping your hair healthy and beautiful this Summer…

Before you go, I would recommend having a trim and a gloss applied. A gloss contains no colour pigment so is great for hi-lights as well as whole head colours. It’s packed full of the right ingredients to give your hair amazing shine and leave it feeling silky smooth.

To avoid burning your hair and scalp in the sun, ensure that you treat yourself to a gorgeous new hat. This will also help protect your eyelids where the skin in naturally thinner.

As many of us know it’s important to apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before we go out in the sun, but many of us forget about our hair. Wella Sun Protection Spray effectively helps to protect the hair against UV rays during sun exposure.

I wouldn’t leave home without Wella Sun Hair & Body Shampoo. This gently removes impurities from sunscreen, salt, and chlorinated water while actively restoring moisture. It will leave your hair and skin feeling invigorated.  It’s a great space saver too, as there is no need to take a separate shower gel.

After a day at the beach, shampoo your hair and apply Wella Sun Express Conditioner to towel dried hair. By applying a small amount to the mid lengths and ends, this will help to replenish any lost moisture. For a more intensive treatment, leave on for 10-15 minutes.

Styling our hair can be tricky whilst on holiday and depending on location the air can often be damp and humid. Therefore I would maybe suggest embrace your “holiday style.” A Sea Salt Spray, like Wella Ocean Spritz can be great for both long and short hair to give you more of a natural beach waved look.

In the meantime, wherever you are off to, I hope you have a fabulous holiday and enjoy every moment!

June Blog: Summer Beauty Must-Haves

Summer Beauty Must Haves

With Summer just around the corner and holidays being planned, I thought I would share some of my beauty must haves with you.

When on holiday, I don’t know about you, but my hair just doesn’t behave in the same way that it does at home. Humidity, change in water and lower voltage of a hairdryer can all play their part. However my secret weapon… Salt spray! By using a salt spray, this really helps to give your hair volume and texture. It works really well for most hair lengths, and for those of you with mid to long hair, this product will really help create that “beach wave” look. Simply spray into towel dried hair, gently scrunch into mid-lengths and ends and leave to dry naturally.

I can’t leave home without my kirby grips. These are great to use when you want to get your hair off your face. For those with longer hair, a hair-up that’s really quick and easy is; tie hair back in to a ponytail. Then take small sections from the pony tail and wrap them over your finger, creating a barrel curl, place outside of the ponytail and secure into place with your grip and ta-dah you’re done!

A tinted moisturiser is perfect for holidays. It’s not as heavy as foundation, so can still let your skin breathe. Many of them also contain SPF, which makes them equally great for both day and evening.

Would you like to make your eyes appear bigger and brighter? If so, apply a nude eye pencil to the lower water line. This will really make your eyes stand out and give your evening look some extra va va voom!

Try swapping your normal lippy for a lip gloss. If your skin is fair, opt for a light pink or peach hue. If you are a darker skin tone, apricot or rose tones will compliment your skin beautifully. A good quality bronzer is also a Summer essential. I really love the ones with a slight shimmer to them, rather than a matte finish. A light dusting over your cheek bones will really enhance your holiday glow.

We all know the dangers caused to our skin by UV rays. Therefore a high SPF sunscreen is essential when going on holiday. For those of you that would prefer to fake it, a beautiful spray tan before you go, will leave you feeling radiant and ready for total relaxation! If you’re not one for sitting in the sun or you want to top up your tan whilst you’re away, why not try Sienna X Express Tanning Mist. It’s easy to apply and requires no tanning mitt or gloves!

I hope this has been useful and given you some inspiration and ideas to try. If you would like more tips for getting beach ready, then simply click here to download my Beach Beauty Checklist. July Blog: 7 Ways to Stay Safe in the Sun…

7-ways-to-stay-safe-in-the-sun

We know how good the sun makes us feel, brighter, happier and generally healthier. However we need to make sure we look after ourselves whilst we are in it. Here are my 7 ways you can stay safe in the sun.

Use the right Sunscreen

For the ultimate coverage, look for SPF25 and upwards. This will protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are those that penetrate the deeper layer of the skin which leads to premature ageing and suppression of the immune system. UVB Rays cause the superficial layers of the skin to become red and sunburnt.

Cover Up

I’m not suggesting for a second that you want to cover yourself from head to toe, however loose clothing and a hat will work wonders for giving you a break from the midday sun. There are some beautiful sarongs and hats at Next and other high street stores.

Take time out

Taking time out of the sun will be something your skin will thank you for. The hottest hours of the sun can vary from country to country so always pay attention to your shadow. If your shadow is shorter than you are, then it’s time to take a rest from the sun.

Be comfortable in your own skin

If your skin feels like it’s starting to burn, then head for some shade and re-apply your sunscreen. It’s recommended that sunscreen should be applied at least half an hour before exposing your skin to sun and if you are covering your whole body, the equivalent of  two tablespoonfuls should be applied.

Love your skin

Always apply enough sunscreen and be over generous, re-applying at regular points throughout the day.

Keep your little ones safe

Babies and young children have very fragile and delicate skin which can burn really easily. Studies have shown that sunburn in younger years can increase the risk of skin cancer in later years, so  by teaching them to apply sunscreen and wearing a hat when they are young, can reduce risks when they are older.

Be Safe and go faux

We all know that tanned skin makes us look great and feel amazing, but you can avoid all the damage that can be caused by the sun and treat you and your skin to a spray tan. You’ll avoid all the peeling, looking like a lobster and the pain that can be caused by over exposure to the sun. A spray tan gives you the gorgeous glow we all love but without those added extras of premature ageing and skin cancer.

So wherever you are heading off this year on your holidays, be safe in the sun.
