What is Spray Tanning?
Spray Tanning contains a colourless sugar known as Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and is the active ingredient within coloured solution that is sprayed on to the skin. This is applied using a specialist low pressure spraying machine. The DHA within the solution interacts with proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of the skin, along with oxygen, this then produces a golden brown colour.
Is it safe?
Yes, It’s the safest way to get a tan. Spray Tanning can give you the same results as spending 10-14 days in the sun, but without the harmful effects of the sun’s rays.
Are any products within the range tested on animals?
No, all of the products are cruelty free.
Are the products vegan friendly?
Yes, the products are vegan-friendly; none of the ingredients cause harm to, or consume any animal, therefore they meet the cosmetic standards for veganism. However, the only product within the range that contains a small percentage of Lanolin is the Prolong Tan Extending Balm and therefore would not be suitable for an extreme vegan.
I’ve heard that Spray Tans make you orange, is this true?
No! The development of tanning solutions has moved on in leaps and bounds from the days where “orange” was the only tone available. We will choose the correct solution for your skin tone and leave you feeling beautifully bronzed and looking great!
How dark will I get?
Sienna X offer a full range of different solutions to suit every skin tone. Your tan result will depend on how well you tan naturally. Many clients like to have a lighter tan for the winter and a darker one in the summer. During your consultation, we will discuss all of the options and create the perfect tan for you and your skin tone.
How long will it last?
I usually say between 5-7 days, however many of my clients often get longer than this. It all depends on your skincare regime, lifestyle and how well your skin was prepared prior to your tan, along with how well you look after it. Moisturising with Sienna X Prolong Tan Extending Balm can help prolong your golden colour for longer.
Will I still need SPF?
Yes as your Spray Tan contains no sun protection at all, so this should be applied as normal, I would recommend SPF30 or higher.
Can I still have a Spray Tan if I’m pregnant?
You can, however I don’t recommend this within the first trimester of pregnancy due to the fluctuation of hormones .
Will I need a skin test?
Yes a skin test will be required at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, especially if any of the following applies;
You have never used any self tanning products before.
You have never had a spray tan before.
How long is a Spray Tan appointment?
It’s a 45 minute appointment, this allows us time to do a consultation, apply your tan and go through your aftercare.
I would like a Spray Tan for a special occasion, how long before my event should I have it done?
This is completely personal preference, however I recommend a day or two before your event.
Can I have a Spray Tan for my Wedding?
Yes, feel free to give me a call or drop me an email to discuss a Bridal Tan Fitting.
Can I shave on the day of my appointment?
No you will need to shave or wax at least 24-48 hours before your spray tan appointment. This gives your pores time to reduce in size prior to having your treatment, otherwise dotting may occur.
What should I wear during and after my appointment?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, whether that’s your swimsuit, bikini or just your bikini bottoms. All I recommend is that whatever you decide to be tanned in, it’s dark and old. After your spray tan has been applied, loose dark clothing is best, feel free to bring your PJ’s, along with flip flops. Tight clothing can cause the tan to rub off during the development time and may stain lighter coloured items.
How long will I need to leave my tan to develop?
With all the Sienna X solutions, you will need to leave it for at least 8-10 hours to fully develop. The only exception to this is with the Express solution as this contains fast acting ingredients. The Express tan can be left on from 1-4 hours, depending on the desired result.
Is there anything I need to be aware of or avoid during my development time?
It is completely normal for you to turn darker throughout your development time, this is just your guide colour and once rinsed, your true colour will be revealed. You should avoid excessive exercise, perspiring or getting wet during your development time. If for any reason, you do get a splash of water on your skin, just gently pat dry, don’t rub.
Will the tan come off on my bedding?
There is a possibility that some colour may rub off onto bedding, however, it does easily wash out of most fabrics, but may stain lighter coloured items, especially Nylon. To be extra safe, I recommend sleeping on an old towel whilst your tan develops. Once you have rinsed your guide colour off, this will be absolutely fine.
Once my tan had developed and I began rinsing off, the water was brown, is this normal?
Yes! All that is being rinsed off is the guide colour this will then reveal your true colour underneath. It’s best to just wash your body with your hands rather than sponges or body puffs, then just pat your skin dry and moisturise.
How can I look after my tan at home?
By following the aftercare that will be provided to you, along with any Sienna X retail products that you may wish to purchase in order to prolong your tan for longer.
When my tan is starting to fade, what should I do?
I would recommend starting to exfoliate with Sienna X Polishing Body Scrub after 5-6 days to encourage an even fade.
