Recently I was chatting to one of my lovely nail clients who asked about the other treatments I provide. We got on to the subject of spray tanning and began talking about the experience I offer. She went on to share with me a previous experience of spray tanning she’d had and by the end, I have to admit I was totally shocked!
She had come across a salon, not far from where she lived at the time who was offering cheaper spray tans so thought she would book an appointment. After arriving, a lady came through and directed her straight to the tanning tent which was covered in old tanning solution.
My client was telling me that at no point did she have a consultation to discuss the desired shade she was looking for or any questions asked about her medical history etc…No sticky feet (self adhesive pads that are worn during tanning to stop the transfer of tan to the bottom of the feet) were issued to her. The barrier cream was “slapped” on and the tanning began.
Not knowing what to expect, she thought this was the norm. She was in and out of the salon in under 10 minutes. Having paid her money, she left with no aftercare or advice on how to look after her tan. I asked her what the results of the tan were, and to be honest, the look on her face said it all. She replied saying “It was patchy, uneven and put me off ever getting another spray tan”.
I couldn’t help but feel saddened by what I was hearing and I asked her if she would like to try another tan with me? At first, she was a little hesitant (which to be honest, if I’d had the experience she’d had, I think I would be to) After talking her through everything including the preparation information, I’m delighted to say, she agreed.
She is now one of my regular tanning clients and I’m so pleased that I could turn her tanning hell into tanning heaven. Nothing makes my day more than to see my clients wearing their tan with confidence, being the most beautiful versions of themselves.
So what did this story teach me? Well, it’s like my client said after her tan, “It just goes to show, if it’s cheap, it’s not good and if it’s good, it’s not cheap.”
If I charge more than some spray tanning therapists, perhaps that’s because I invest a lot of time and money in my education, to perfect my skill each year. I strive to offer my clients the very best products within the industry.
This is not just my job, it’s my passion and I believe that each and everyone of my clients deserves the highest level of service as well as…
- They deserve to know how to prepare for their tan, they deserve to know how to look after it and get the very best from it.
- They deserve an in depth consultation and to know that one shade doesn’t fit all.
- They deserve to step inside a tanning tent that isn’t caked with solution from the tan before.
- They deserve not to feel awkward about being semi naked.
- They deserve not to feel rushed but most of all, they deserve to feel beautiful and confident!
Until next time…
Love,
Nina x
