Why Self Care Is So Important

Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty

Self care is something that us women often neglect. We can end up putting everything, including others before ourselves. Life is busy, with many of us juggling home, work and family life, so this month I wanted to share with you why self care is so important…

Before I begin, I hold my hands up, my self care routine isn’t that great, however this is something that I am going to work really hard on changing. A lot of it is to do with mindset, we can often feel guilty about taking time out, however to avoid overwhelm and to maintain our health, it really is vital.

Last year, we were doing some building work at home so had made the decision to not go away on holiday, but as a result, I took no real time off. I had become a slave to my business without even realising. We then went away for the first two weeks of January and it was only then, I realised how much I needed a break.

This kind of ‘lifestyle’ isn’t sustainable and eventually would of turned into complete burnout. So, my question to you is, and I want you to be really honest with yourself; When was the last time, you did something just for you?

We often think that self care needs to cost us money, but it really doesn’t. It doesn’t always have to be a spa day or a weekend away. Sometimes it can just be going for a walk and getting back in touch with nature or having a bath with your favourite candle and glass of Prosecco.

With Valentine’s Day later this month, I think there is no better time to show yourself some love! Why not take yourself on a date. Go to your favourite cafe, have lunch or treat yourself to a shopping day. Even if you don’t buy anything, your body and mind will thank you for giving it a day of just wandering!

So what will you commit to this month, how can you give yourself the gift of some self care? I’d love you to share with me one thing you’ll do this month in a comment below.

Until next time, show yourself lots of love!

February Blog: Why “Me Time” Matters

Why Me Time Matters

As women, we are often juggling lots of things; work, family life, running a home and much more besides. I understand all too well, the pressures of keeping all those plates spinning, at the same time and in perfect unison with each other! So with that in mind, I have a question for you, Do you ever take time out for yourself? (I’m guessing many of you are shaking your head whilst reading this or thinking “time out” for me, what’s that?)

It’s no surprise really, us women put a lot of pressure on ourselves don’t we? However, I think that because we have perfected the art of multi-tasking so well, this can sometimes become a negative, why? Because many of us then feel guilty for taking some time out! I’m including myself in this to!

That said, we need to be realistic, excessive pressure and stress, over time can lead to poor health, mental burnout and exhaustion, which is never a good place to be. This is why “me time” is so important and why we need to ditch the guilt! “Pampering” ourselves is often viewed as a luxury, but I want to tell you, it’s not, it’s a necessity! So, with that in mind, my challenge to you for this month is to take some time out for you, everyday! Yes every single day I want you to claim some “me time!” That could be taking a warm bath full of bubbles, lighting some candles and applying a face mask or moisturising your tired feet after a long day, whatever it is, do this for you!

You are so important and self care is to, these things don’t have to cost a lot or even take up hours of time, but by doing one or all of them each day, you are showing yourself a whole lot of love and respect and you deserve this! I’ll also be taking the challenge so you are not alone!

I would love to know how you are getting on with this, so feel free to leave me a comment below or head over to my Facebook page and we can have a chat about it!

Here’s to claiming back our “me time” because it really does matter!

January Blog: 2016 Is Here…

Jan Blog Image

January can be a long month, and with the hustle and bustle of Christmas all over, sometimes this time of year can leave us feeling a bit flat. So what can we do?…

I have actually learnt to embrace January, as a month to focus as well as to reflect. Let me explain… In life we are often looking for what’s next, when’s our next holiday or what’s our next DIY project at home? But how long do we actually sit and reflect on how far we’ve come in that year?

I started 2015 with my honeymoon which was amazing and I got to do something I had always dreamed of, which was swimming with Dolphins. This was an experience I will never forget. I was so lucky to have spent three weeks in the Dominican Republic visiting different places and some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. However, we all know what it’s like, we have a holiday and when we return, it doesn’t take long before “life” resumes, with work and family life taking over.

One of the things I did whilst sitting on one of the most un-spoilt Island beaches we visited, was to actually take the experience in. I closed my eyes and truly breathed in every moment, the sun on my face, the sand between my toes and the sound of the waves gently kissing the shore. Our minds are such a powerful thing and even though it’s January, just by closing my eyes now, I can still take myself right back to that moment!

I naturally always feel better when I have a plan, I’m definitely someone who likes a routine and I guess that helps when running my gorgeous little business. However something I am guilty of, is not taking time out. I truly love what I do and so sometimes it’s hard to take a step back. Even when I’m not working directly with my clients, there is always so much I can do, so that is definitely something I want to work on this year.

So my challenge to you is, what do you want to do in 2016? What will you change? What will you stop doing? Sometimes things you won’t do are just as important as the things you will do!

Make a deal with yourself, you don’t have to label it as a “New Year’s resolution” as if you are anything like me, these are often broken within the first week.

Think of it more as the “new you” let go of things that no longer make you happy, make more time for you. Do you want to learn a new skill, maybe take a course in something creative? Whatever it is, write it down and commit to it! Your future self will thank you for it!

I would love to know your wishes for 2016, so why not share it with me in the comments section below.

Whatever this year has in store for us, I hope it’s full of magic and sparkle!
