Should You Be Using A Retinol?

March 1, 2022 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

The Retinol Serum

You may have heard about Retinol, but what is it and why should you incorporate it into your skincare routine? Retinol is a type of Retinoid which is made from Vitamin A. Its job is to stimulate Collagen production. With ongoing use, it helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, creating a smoother, more even complexion.

Collagen gives our skin its elasticity and plumpness and as we hit our thirties, our collagen production starts to decrease. Our skin gets thinner and as a result, fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. This is where The Retinol Serum can help. However, there are a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to incorporating it within your skincare routine…

Why should I only use The Retinol Serum at night?

This is because Retinol can increase your skin’s sensitivity to UV rays, therefore should always be applied during your evening skincare routine, followed by an SPF30 + the next day.

Why is it important to start of using The Retinol Serum gradually?

You will need to build up your skin’s tolerance to Retinol. Therefore you should begin using it 1-2 times a week to start with and then gradually increase to daily use as your skin adjusts. For first time users, I would always recommend a patch test before using.

When should I use it and how much should I use?

You would apply this during your evening skincare routine. After you have cleansed and toned your face, you would apply your Retinol. The Retinol Serum is highly concentrated and therefore less is most definitely more. Only 2-3 drops are needed as it goes a long way. Don’t be tempted to use more than you need, it’s wasting your product and your money. Avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth. For a guide on how to apply , please click here.

What else do I need to know about The Retinol Serum?

You should avoid using The Retinol Serum if you on any other retinoid treatments and if you are pregnant, this is due to hormonal changes that can effect the skin.

I hope this has helped and if you have an questions about The Retinol Serum or any of the other skincare products within the Sienna X range, please feel free to leave a comment below or get in touch via my Facebook page

Behind The Scenes: The New Sienna X Skincare Collection

November 1, 2019 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

Sienna X The SkinCare Collection

Last month I was invited to Sienna X Head Office for the launch of their latest addition to the brand; The Skincare Collection.

It was such a great day, not just catching up with the team but also to have the opportunity to use each and every product of the collection on my own face! If you have been following me for a while, you will know that I never recommend a product, unless I have tried it myself!

The Cleansing Lotion: This is perfect to use as a first cleanse or to use as part of a double cleanse. The creamy lotion contains 97% of natural ingredients and helps to restore moisture and remove make up effectively.

The Cleansing Balm: I absolutely fell in love with this product from the minute I tried it. It starts off as a solid and as you warm the product in your hands and glide it over your face and neck, it literally melts away any long lasting make up and removes any negative traces of pollution.

The Toning Solution: Infused with a fresh rose water fragrance, this toner helps to cool, hydrate and rebalance your skin. In the past I’ve used a well known toner that made me skin feel so tight and dehydrated. This is so delicate but does the job! You can spritz over the face and neck, or for a deeper cleanse, apply to a cotton wool pad.

The Facial Polish: This is the exfoliator within the range and I loved it, the mineral volcanic pumice helps to remove congested areas as well as brightening and purifying your skin.

The Clay Mask: Unlike other clay masks I’ve tried in the past that literally after 5 minutes of being on my skin, crack. This felt lovely on my skin. It includes Chia Seed Extract which helps to fight dehydration, skin irritation and banish blemishes.

The Chemical Peel: If you are anything like me, I always used to be petrified of a chemical peel. I had visions of my skin literally peeling off. But I was completely surprised when I tried this. It’s 86% natural liquid exfoliator which is infused with Glycolic Acid which helps remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter skin. This would be a night time product as you’d want to avoid any exposure to the sun.

Sienna X Skincare Launch Day

Just a little sneak peek behind the scenes of my day at Sienna X HQ!

The Miracle Mask: Another of my absolute favourites within the collection. This definitely has the right name! It contains 10% Manuka Honey and I can honestly say, my skin has never felt so nourished!

The Day Cream: This contains SPF30, an anti pollution formula as well as Marine Bamboo which is known for fighting the damaging effects of blue light and infra read type A.

The Eye Cream: This contains SPF15 and is designed to brighten and tighten the eye area and like the day cream, also contains Marine Bamboo

The Retinol Serum: A retinol is something I’d never used before but it helps to reduce fine lines, boost collagen and brighten skin. If you like me, are new to using a retinol product, begin using 1-2 times a week and gradually increase. Never use with any other retinoid treatment. This contains 0.3% of pure retinol, the maximum UK strength.

The Facial Oil: I absolutely love to use an oil in my night time routine and this one did not disappoint! The 100% natural, lightweight oil helps to relax and hydrate your skin.

I am a huge fan of the new collection and have been using the range ever since my visit to Head Office! I love the simplicity of the range, but I also love that you can create the skincare routine that fits into your life! All of the products been dermatologically tested, clinically proven and are suitable for sensitive skin. All of the products are between 69% and 100% natural, all cruelty free, vegan friendly* except for the Miracle Mask which does contain 10% Manuka Honey.

If you are anything like me, you’re busy and don’t have the time to use 50 different products, but still want to look after your skin and let’s face it, at times, products within skincare ranges can be completely overwhelming and confusing!

If you are looking for a new skincare range, without the confusion, that is packed full of high quality, natural ingredients this could be just what you’ve been looking for! If you would like any additional information, feel free to email me; info@bebeautifulhairandbeauty or leave me a comment below.
