September Blog: When Dreams Come True…

Just over three years ago, I took a massive jump to start my own business and it was one of the scariest things I had ever done in my life. Now, to give you some background, I have always worked. Even before I left school, I was a Saturday girl and then after leaving school, I worked full time. Whether that was in the salon I later went on to manage or other jobs I had done; which included HR and Bar Management.

So at that point, to not actually be employed anymore, felt all very scary and very real. When I first began my business, I knew how to cut hair and do nails but that was pretty much it. I had no idea on how to market myself, about websites or SEO, (I didn’t even know what SEO was) blogs or social media. Not only did I have to gain clients, I needed to learn all this other “stuff” to! This was game time, I had to invest hugely, not just in my business, but in myself too. I began reading as many books as I could and working with some amazing mentors to guide me along the way. Luckily for me, I’ve always been the type of person, that if I didn’t know it, I would learn it!

I knew that I wanted to introduce a new service to my treatment menu and attended Professional Beauty in London to see what was on offer. I looked at so many different treatments from HD Brows to Eyelashes and more. I came across Sienna X, who are a professional spray tan company. Within 45 minutes, I had ordered my kit and booked my training. From day one, I absolutely loved it (and to this day, still do). I loved how I could not just enhance how someone looked, but I could enhance how they felt about themselves too!

I went on to take my tanning to the highest level with Sienna X and in January this year, became one of their Master Professionals.

I truly love all aspects of my work, but I’ve never really been one to “put myself out there” by entering competitions to win awards. However after working with my coach, in May 2016, one of my many dreams came true! I was awarded Sienna X Therapist of the Month and was completely over the moon. My next dream followed shortly afterwards… I had been asked to write a small feature for a Professional Hair and Beauty magazine… Not only that, but I was going to feature alongside my tanning guru and trainer; James Harknett. To say I was doing the “happy dance” would be an understatement!

None of this I would have ever believed possible and even though these are baby steps, it’s really made me believe in my dreams. So my question to you is, what are your dreams? What would you love to achieve? What is stopping you achieving them? Whatever it is, go for it! I recently read a quote which said; “Every Morning we have two choices, continue to sleep with our dreams or to wake up and chase them” – Unknown. How true is that?

There are many more dreams I want to achieve , but for now, it’s about showing up and chasing them! Let’s enjoy chasing our dreams and making them come true!

August Blog: The Tanning Products You’ll Really Love!

There are many tanning products on the market, but how do we know which ones do what? How do we know if we want a Gel, a Lotion or a Cream? If it all feels a bit confusing, fear not, I am here to help! Having that all important tan doesn’t just make us look good, I think it gives a massive boost of confidence to. With the great British Summer being what it is, we can never be guaranteed of sunshine for long. Therefore, you may be looking to create your own. Whether you have mastered the technique of self-tanning at home or you like to top up your professional spray tan in-between appointments, I’ve got you covered!

The High Intensity One Hour Tan… This is brand new for 2016 and this tan is perfect for those of you who are short of time and don’t want to sit around, waiting for your tan to develop. You can shower after just one hour and watch your tan develop over the next 2-8 hours. Leaving you with a gorgeous light to medium tan, depending on skin tone, results may vary.

Instant Bronzing Gel… If you want an instant glow, then this is the tan for you! The gel blends easily and can be washed off instantly to reveal a flawless, streak free tan. I personally like this one for enhancing or topping up my tan, rather than using it to create my tan.

Gradual Glowing Self Tan… This is perfect for enhancing your tan or creating one. It gradually builds up the colour as desired. If you like your tan a little darker, then this one can be re-applied. It also contains an anti-cellulite formula, which helps to tone and smooth the skin! I really love this product and personally, this is my favourite as you can build up the colour to get your desired result!

Express Tanning Mist… This is a brilliant product for topping up your tan and is a “spray tan in a can”. It provides instant colour when you need it and takes up to 8 hours to fully develop. With a 360° nozzle, it makes it really easy to apply. Simply hold the can 15-20cm away from the body and spray, allow to dry before dressing. This is another real favourite of mine, it’s quick, easy and no mess! This can also be re-applied to create a darker looking result.

Deep Self Tan Lotion… This one has a strong instant guide colour, making it really easy to apply. It develops within 8 hours and once it’s been washed off, you will be left with flawless, deep rich colour. I would recommend this one for darker skin tones or if you like a medium to dark tan.

Q10 Bronzing Mousse… Like many of the products within the range, this one is an award winner! This is a dark tan mousse again with a visible guide colour for easy application. It will begin developing within 2-4 hours and should be rinsed off after 8 hours. As with the Deep Self Tan Lotion, I would recommend this one for darker skin tones that like a richer, deeper looking tan.

Finally, I would always recommend using a good quality tanning mitt when applying any self-tanning product. This helps to create a flawless application and avoid being left with tanned hands. July Blog: Is Your Tan Really Worth It?

We all love a holiday and the feeling of just being able to “get away” from it all. There is no better feeling than sand between your toes and the warm sun on your skin. Therefore this month, I wanted to share some things you can do to keep your skin looking at its best this Summer.

I am sure that we have all seen people on holiday, applying their tanning oil and practically cooking themselves in the midday sun, just to get that all important tan. However, with skin cancer figures increasing each year, is it all really worth it? Damage to our skin caused by the sun is often irreversible, leaving us looking older than we are, and who wants that? (As women, we spend a fortune each year on beauty creams, lotions and potions to give us the appearance of younger looking skin!)

It’s no secret how passionate I am about spray tanning and the benefits it gives, but this is so much more than that. You can still have that “ultimate tan” you dream of, but in a completely safe and streak free way. Plus, with the good old British Summer, we can never be sure if the sun will make an appearance from one day to the next.

I am proud to work with the market leaders in tanning, Sienna X. The solutions they create offer a shade to suit every skin tone, with no streaks and definitely no “Orange.” So, my question is, can we really afford not to fake it?

The only thing a spray tan won’t give you, is skin cancer and premature ageing! For me, that’s a win,win! I can still have the appearance of looking beautifully tanned, but without any of the risk! Here are some other handy tips and tricks to keep you safe in the sun….

It is recommend that sunscreen should be applied at least half an hour before going out in the sun and for ultimate coverage, look for SPF25 and upwards. This will protect against the UVA and UVB rays. The UVA rays are those which penetrate the deeper layer of the skin and the UVB rays are those that cause the superficial layers of the skin.

Taking time out of the sun is so important, especially when it’s at it’s highest point. A good tip to remember is pay attention to your shadow. If your shadow is shorter than you are, then take a rest and find some shade.

Wearing a sarong and a hat will work wonders for giving you a break from the midday sun and ensure that you regularly re-apply your sunscreen throughout the day.
