How To Save Your Skin This Summer

July 1, 2021 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

Our Summer getaways may be looking a little different this year with many of us looking for something a little closer to home. However, our typical British weather can be unpredictable; so this month, I thought I would share some top tips on how to save your skin this Summer.

SLIP on clothing, this can be one of the most effective barriers between our skin and the sun. Make sure shoulders are protected as they can burn easily.

SLOP on SPF 30+ Sunscreen, make sure it carries a UVA symbol and apply generously at least 20 minutes before sun exposure.

SLAP on a wide brimmed hat to shield face, neck and ears.

SLIDE on the shades and go for high quality protection, look for the european CE mark which indicates a safe level of protection.

SHADE from the sun where possible, particularly between the hours of 11am-3pm when the sun is at its hottest.

By following these steps above, you’ll be doing all you can to take care of your skin. The safest way you can tan is either a professional spray tan or self tanning. It will give you that golden glow you crave and will have you glowing with confidence. The one thing it won’t give you is skin cancer!

Finally, please do one thing for me, check your moles. If you notice even the slightest change, whether that’s in size, shape, colour, becoming itchy or raised, please go and see your GP. It might just save your life!

Until next time, enjoy your getaway and look after your skin this Summer!

Love,

Nina x

How To Look After Your Skin This Summer

Summer getaways are just around the corner. We all love a holiday and that feeling of heading to the airport early, getting those last minute essentials before two weeks of sun and relaxation! We can’t wait to get on that beach, get “the tan” and show off our golden glow as soon as we get back, but at what cost?

Recently, I took an accredited course with Skcin UK, an amazing charity that helps raise awareness of skin cancer within the UK. As a Spray Tan Therapist, I see skin on a daily basis and so wanted to learn more about what to look out for as early detection of skin cancer can make a huge difference…

The statistics below were provided by Cancer Research UK in 2018 and are frightening to say the least…

  • Skin cancer is the most common and fastest rising cancers in the UK.
  • Over the last 25 years, rates of melanoma in Britain have risen faster, killing more people than in the sunshine capital of the world, Australia.
  • There are over 2,400 deaths from melanoma each year
  • Sunbed users and active tan seekers are at greater risk. Using a sunbed just once a month can increase a persons risk of developing skin cancer by more than 50% and regular sunbed users under the age of 35 increases a persons risk by an alarming 87%
  • It’s a common misconception that using a sunbed will prepare or protect the skin against burning before going on holiday – it won’t. It just increases damage and risk, along with premature ageing, wrinkling and sagging of the skin.
  • A massive 86% of melanoma cases are actually preventable!

With stats like that, I wanted to share with you 5 steps you can take to stay safe in the sun this Summer…

1

SLIP on clothing, this can be one of the most effective barriers between our skin and the sun. Make sure shoulders are protected as they can burn easily.

2

SLOP on SPF 30+ Sunscreen, make sure it carries a UVA symbol and apply generously at least 20 minutes before sun exposure.

3

SLAP on a wide brimmed hat to shield face, neck and ears.

4

SLIDE on the shades and go for high quality protection, look for the european CE mark which indicates a safe level of protection.

5

SHADE from the sun where possible, particularly between the hours of 11am-3pm when the sun is at its hottest.

By following these steps above, you’ll be doing all you can to take care of your skin. The safest way you can tan is either a professional spray tan or self tanning. It will give you that golden glow you crave, it will give you the confidence to hit the beach from the very start of your holiday, the only thing it won’t give you is skin cancer!

If you take nothing else away from this blog post, please do one thing for me, check your moles and if you notice even the slightest change, whether that’s in size, shape, colour, becoming itchy or raised, please go and see your GP. It might just save your life!

Until next time, enjoy your holiday and look after your skin this Summer!

How To Revive Your Skin After Summer…

September 1, 2018 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

With the Summer holidays almost over, there is no better time to replenish and revive your skin. Daily life can take its toll on our skin, sun exposure, pollution and make up can all contribute to our skin feeling dehydrated and lacking lustre.

I love to try new products, but my skin is quite sensitive so I have to be careful what I use. However, I’ve loved using the Liz Earle skincare range and this month, I wanted to share with you some of my favourite products and help you revive your skin after Summer…

Cleanse & Polish…

From the first time I used this cleanser, my skin felt instantly cleaner and fresher. Simply apply one to two pumps and massage onto dry skin, working in circular motions over the face and neck. Rinse your cloth under hand-hot water and squeeze out the excess. Remove cleanser and finish by splashing cold water over face. I use this both in the morning and the evening.

Instant Boost Skin Tonic…

After cleansing I apply the Skin Boost Tonic to a cotton pad and sweep over my face and neck. The toner contains Aloe Vera and Calendula Extract which are both known for their hydrating and soothing properties. Some toners I have used in the past, left my skin feeling dry, but this one leaves my skin feeling cool and refreshed.

Skin Repair Moisturiser…

This lightweight moisturiser is easily absorbed in to the skin and unlike some moisturisers won’t leave your skin feeling overloaded and greasy. It contains Avocado Oil and Echinacea Extract which help to nourish and condition the skin beautifully. Oh and it smells divine!

Gentle Face Exfoliator…

This product is gentle, yet so effective and perfect for when your skin feels a little dull or congested. It leaves my skin feeling brighter, smoother and refreshed.

Deep Cleansing Mask…

I have found this a great product to use, especially when at certain times of the month, my skin can be prone to breakouts. The mask contains green clay which helps reduce oiliness and draw out impurities to leave skin feeling balanced and calm.

I’m not an affiliate for the brand, I just love to share products that work. I also believe that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and confident in her own skin. If you would like to find out more about Liz Earle and the full range of products available, you can visit her website here.

Until next time, enjoy being the beautiful you!

Love,

Nina x
