Should You Be Using A Retinol?

March 1, 2022 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

The Retinol Serum

You may have heard about Retinol, but what is it and why should you incorporate it into your skincare routine? Retinol is a type of Retinoid which is made from Vitamin A. Its job is to stimulate Collagen production. With ongoing use, it helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, creating a smoother, more even complexion.

Collagen gives our skin its elasticity and plumpness and as we hit our thirties, our collagen production starts to decrease. Our skin gets thinner and as a result, fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. This is where The Retinol Serum can help. However, there are a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to incorporating it within your skincare routine…

Why should I only use The Retinol Serum at night?

This is because Retinol can increase your skin’s sensitivity to UV rays, therefore should always be applied during your evening skincare routine, followed by an SPF30 + the next day.

Why is it important to start of using The Retinol Serum gradually?

You will need to build up your skin’s tolerance to Retinol. Therefore you should begin using it 1-2 times a week to start with and then gradually increase to daily use as your skin adjusts. For first time users, I would always recommend a patch test before using.

When should I use it and how much should I use?

You would apply this during your evening skincare routine. After you have cleansed and toned your face, you would apply your Retinol. The Retinol Serum is highly concentrated and therefore less is most definitely more. Only 2-3 drops are needed as it goes a long way. Don’t be tempted to use more than you need, it’s wasting your product and your money. Avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth. For a guide on how to apply , please click here.

What else do I need to know about The Retinol Serum?

You should avoid using The Retinol Serum if you on any other retinoid treatments and if you are pregnant, this is due to hormonal changes that can effect the skin.

I hope this has helped and if you have an questions about The Retinol Serum or any of the other skincare products within the Sienna X range, please feel free to leave a comment below or get in touch via my Facebook page

5 Skincare Swaps For Winter

February 1, 2022 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

Is your skin feeling dry or dehydrated? You may be thinking these are the same, but they are in fact different. Dry skin is lacking oil to the skin and dehydration is lacking water to the skin. The Winter months can cause either of these or both so here are some of my top tips to give your skin some extra TLC.

Cleanser…

If you currently use a foaming cleanser, these can often be a quite drying especially during the colder months. Therefore, I would suggest swapping to The Cleansing Balm or The Cleansing Lotion. These are much more nourishing and will hydrate your skin beautifully.

Toner…

Avoid an alcohol based toner, these can strip the skin and dry it out. Swap to The Toning Solution which contains Organic Rose Water, this will help to soothe, hydrate and rebalance your skin.

Exfoliate…

Don’t be put off by exfoliating during the Winter. You should exfoliate 1-2 times per week and I personally love The Facial Polish. It gently removes dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling fresh, super clean and smooth.

Facial Oil…

If you’ve never used one before, now is the perfect time. It will literally become your BFF. The Facial Oil is a lightweight oil which contains Rose Hip Seed Oil which helps to nourish, rejuvenate and naturally brighten skin.

SPF…

Just because there isn’t much sun around at this time of year, you still need an SPF. The Day Cream works beautifully. It contains SPF30 along with an anti-pollution formula to lift and brighten the skin. The added Marine Bamboo also helps to fight against damaging effects of blue light (that we get from phones, tablets and computers).

Finally, take off the day as soon as you get in from the school run or work. Our skin needs extra time to repair from cold weather and the dryness that can be caused from central heating, so don’t make it wait until bedtime.

How To Save Your Skin This Summer

July 1, 2021 By Be Beautiful Hair & Beauty Leave a Comment

Our Summer getaways may be looking a little different this year with many of us looking for something a little closer to home. However, our typical British weather can be unpredictable; so this month, I thought I would share some top tips on how to save your skin this Summer.

SLIP on clothing, this can be one of the most effective barriers between our skin and the sun. Make sure shoulders are protected as they can burn easily.

SLOP on SPF 30+ Sunscreen, make sure it carries a UVA symbol and apply generously at least 20 minutes before sun exposure.

SLAP on a wide brimmed hat to shield face, neck and ears.

SLIDE on the shades and go for high quality protection, look for the european CE mark which indicates a safe level of protection.

SHADE from the sun where possible, particularly between the hours of 11am-3pm when the sun is at its hottest.

By following these steps above, you’ll be doing all you can to take care of your skin. The safest way you can tan is either a professional spray tan or self tanning. It will give you that golden glow you crave and will have you glowing with confidence. The one thing it won’t give you is skin cancer!

Finally, please do one thing for me, check your moles. If you notice even the slightest change, whether that’s in size, shape, colour, becoming itchy or raised, please go and see your GP. It might just save your life!

Until next time, enjoy your getaway and look after your skin this Summer!

Love,

Nina x
